Description
In the religion of the Finno-Ugric peoples aquatic birds like ducks and swans were considered sacred. There is an ancient creation myth that the world was created from an accidentally broken egg of a great duck. The shell became the world and the yolk the sun. Many bird pendants have been found from 10th to 13th century in Estonia and the neighboring areas. These earrings are a copy of a find from southern Estonia in 12th century.
